At this point in Jacob’s life, evidently he started to experience a deeper revelation of the Lord and thus he built a new altar signifying this which he called “El-beth-el” (the God of the house of God). Like Jacob, we can and should be faithful to the church of God which points to the God of the church and to the written word of God (the Bible) which points to the God of the word. As important as the church and the Bible are, let us remember that they are not ends in themselves, but are signposts to our Saviour to whom deserves our utmost devotion.
